About the Journal
The Journal of the International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives represents the collected research and applied work of the global audiovisual archives community. Also known as the IASA Journal, it is published online once a year and is freely available as the first and only open-access portal for discourse on care, access and long-term preservation of the world’s sound and moving image heritage.
The IASA Journal is constantly looking for material to publish. Please register and submit via the “Make a Submission” button on the right of this page. Authors are not charged any fees for submitting or publishing their work.

Scope and Article Types
The International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Journal publishes research, case studies, book reviews, reports, and profiles relevant to the fields of sound and audiovisual archives and audiovisual preservation.
Authors of IASA conference presentations are encouraged to develop their presentations into more detailed accounts and/or arguments for publication in the journal.
Profiles are essay-style contributions that fall within the scope of the journal but are not required to present original research or a review of literature. They may be reflective, critical, or opinion-based, and can address any topic relevant to sound and audiovisual archives. Profiles are typically reviewed and edited by the editorial team rather than undergoing formal peer review. References may be included where appropriate.
Abstracts may also be submitted for consideration by the editorial team to ensure proposals are within the IASAJ’s scope.
The IASA Journal typically accepts submissions in English. Submissions in Spanish may be considered, but authors should first contact the editors with an abstract to confirm feasibility.

Editorial Process
The IASA Journal editorial process is managed through the Public Knowledge Project’s Open Journal Systems platform. Submissions are first screened by the editorial team for scope, quality, and compliance with guidelines. Manuscripts that pass this stage are then subject to double-anonymous peer review, in which the identities of both authors and reviewers are concealed. Each manuscript is evaluated by at least one independent reviewer, who provides feedback and a recommendation. Based on the reviewer’s assessment and the editors’ own evaluation, the editorial team makes the final decision on acceptance, revision, or rejection. The editorial team may forego the peer review process for profile submissions. The time required for initial review depends on the subject of the submission and the availability of reviewers, and further rounds of revision may extend the process.

Ethics and Compliance
Originality: The IASA Journal accepts only original research that has not been previously published, is not under consideration elsewhere, and does not contain text recycling (including translated text from a prior publication).
Funding disclosure: Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest during submission, including all sources of research funding and any financial or non-financial interests that could have influenced the research or its presentation. Sources of financial support should appear in an “Acknowledgments” section in the manuscript as well.
AI use: Generative AI tools may not be listed as authors. Any use of AI must be disclosed in the manuscript, including tool name, version, purpose, and reason for use. This statement should appear in the Methods or Acknowledgments section. Authors should not use Generative AI tools to replace core author responsibilities, such as drafting text without thorough revision, creating synthetic data without sound methodology, or generating content (including abstracts, figures, and references).
